The homes we live in are probably the most valuable asset we have. It therefore makes sense to look after them as well as possible and keep them in good order. As the architect Le Corbusier said "A house is a machine for living in". As well as keeping your house in good running order it is important to take all possible steps before buying your new house to ensure that it is in good order or to find out what works you might have to carry out after you buy it.The way to do that is to have a pre-purchase survey carried out by a Chartered Surveyor.
Services
We are a firm of Chartered Surveyors with over 40 years' experience dealing with buildings in the area of Kent, Surrey and Sussex. We can advise on everything from ancient buildings such as Wealden hall houses right through to newly built houses including any timber framed buildings. A speciality is the timber framed and cedar clad houses and bungalows manufactured by Colt Houses Ltd.
If you are buying a house, you should seriously consider having a survey carried out. This will inform you of the condition of the property you are proposing to buy and will draw shortcomings to your attention enabling you to make an informed decision and perhaps to re- negotiate the purchase price.
These timber framed and cedar clad buildings have been produced by W H Colt Son & Co for nearly a hundred years and are still in production. For many years their factory was in Bethersden, near Ashford in Kent. Our office was until recently very close by and over the years we have come to be recognised as experts in carrying out surveys of these very comfortable and eco-friendly properties and since very few other surveyors seem to be au fait with their form of construction we are happy to travel anywhere in the UK to survey them.
We are able to offer a range of services in this respect. We can advise initially if you are proposing an extension or a new building. This will include advice on any planning consents which might be needed and also the need for building regulation approval. We can then prepare the drawings necessary for the submission of a planning application, submit the application on your behalf and see the matter through to the issue of a decision by the planning authority. We can then augment the drawings and submit an application for building regulation approval, once again dealing with any further requests for information by building control up to the issue of a decision.
