Services
Snow Walker is an independent professional practice with extensive experience in surveying period and listed buildings. The senior surveyors are Fellows of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and offer many years' experience of property surveys - particularly on older buildings - which is immensely useful in a region that includes Cambridge, Ely, Bury St Edmunds and Saffron Walden where so many ancient buildings have survived.
A Building Survey (formerly known as a Structural Survey) is a wide-ranging inspection of a property. Our Building Survey examines all accessible elements but you can request that specific areas are included to cover any particular concerns you may have. We will happily tailor the Survey to meet your precise needs.
Our Main Defects Report focuses solely on major issues. It is particularly intended to provide a guide to anyone contemplating the purchase of a property for renovation or repair. The Report is particularly useful for architects, property developers and builders who wish to establish the extent of any defects they have noted in a property without having to undertake a full Building Survey.
Our Brief Inspection was devised to appeal to clients who will already have an element of property knowledge but still require a surveyor's general guidance. It is ideal for those who are considering a property purchase but who do not wish to bear the cost of a detailed report prior to having an offer accepted.

I would highly recommend Snow Walker if you are considering a survey on any type of property. Communication has been easy and efficient from start to finish. Timescales for completing work has been swift and reliable. The finished report was detailed, enlightening and more than we could have asked for. The follow up service has also been above and beyond, with what otherwise may have been a tricky purchase! Thank you to the whole team (but especially Brien!).

I have been incredibly impressed by the service I have received from Brien and the Snow Walker team. They have not only provided thorough, comprehensible advice but have also gone above and beyond to accommodate me; I have always been made to feel both welcome and well advised. I could not recommend them more highly for the quality and delivery of service.

Snow Walker (and specifically Matthew Simper) were absolute lifesavers that restored my faith in building surveyors. I cannot recommend them enough. My partner and I are buying our first house. During the post-lockdown housing market boom, so many surveyors were too busy to take on new clients that we picked March Surveyors. It was a mistake. The sheer catastrophic level of incompetence shown by March Surveyors should be its own review.
The report we received was hardly worth the paper it was written on. "The gutters are 100mm, " rating 3, and that was pretty much it. According to the key provided, 3 means it needs to be immediately replaced, but the report told us nothing about what was actually wrong with them. Unsatisfied, I rang about a dozen surveyors, including Snow Walker. Matthew immediately understood exactly what had happened, and took it upon himself to redeem the industry in our eyes, despite having no personal responsibility for the negligence of his competitor.
He clearly articulated what needed to be done, fit us in as quickly as he could, and charged a very fair price compared to other companies. He investigated all of our concerns regarding the property, including unscrewing and lifting a mysterious wooden box in an outbuilding, which had been tightly shut. He agreed to give us a tour of the property after the survey to show us what he found, and we were all impressed with how meticulously he had checked every detail.
In particular, he found a leak in the neighbor's property which was negatively affecting one of our exterior walls in a common passageway, which we would never have noticed on our own, as it is barely ever used. The brave man even stuck his hand in there to pull out fungus to show us -- something I would not have the stomach to do, and I admire the dedication. While I can't say I am eager to move again anytime soon, if I ever find myself buying another property, I will be calling Snow Walker straight away.

Very happy to recommend. Matthew and Michelle were fantastic. They went out of the way to help me after a delay within the chain pushed my Help to Buy valuation outside the 3 month limit. They had a couple of days to perform a desktop valuation and as they were extremely busy they worked outside of normal hours to ensure I had it in to the Housing association in good time. This saved another survey which would have been impossible to do within the time frame of the completion. Thank you both and have a wonderful holiday, you deserve it.

Brien did a very thorough job surveying a Grade II-listed house we are buying, and we also got him to do the reinstatement valuation for insurance purposes. He is clearly extremely knowledgeable about properties like this, and his report was extremely informative. He has also been very generous with his time in giving us advice on other matters related to the house and listed building consent. I would highly recommend him.
