MK Surveys have been appointed by Thanet District Council to provide a 3D AutoCAD model of the Grade II listed Scenic Railway at Dreamland Amusement Park in Margate, Kent. The ride is now almost unique, as a brakeman is still required to travel with the train to control its speed, as there are no brakes on the track.
The Elan Valley Aqueduct is 73 miles long and was officially opened by King Edward VII in 1904. The aqueduct delivers water from the reservoirs in mid Wales to Frankley Reservoir on the edge of Birmingham. Due to the precious nature of this asset, access for inspection is very limited and accurate plan information almost non-existent.
These range from simple Building Elevations to very complicated plant/service areas. One of the most interesting projects was surveying the interior rooms including walls, floors and ceilings of the "Old" British Embassy in Moscow which is now the Ambassador's residence. After brushing up on our Russian, ("can I have another vodka please?") we managed to complete the topographical survey and laser scanning of the building within the tight programme time and to then post process the 3D imagery over the following months.
MK Surveys have carried out detailed topographical surveys of prospective Hydro-electric sites all over the UK. Recent sites include a disused mine in Cornwall, Large river weirs in Yorkshire and Dam sluice systems in the Lake District. All site surveys are set to Ordnance Survey level and grid, using the latest Leica GPS to achieve extremely accurate position fixes.
